 How Smart City Stop Global Warming

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Smart Cities Mission in India on June 25, 2015. The project aims to improve the quality of life for people living in India and drive economic growth. Almost 31% of the population of India lives in cities, and they contribute 63% of GDP, as per the data collected in Census 2011. It is believed that by 2030 around 40% of India's will be living in cities and contribute 75% to the GDP. This mission of the government of India promises to improve the quality of life in 100 cities and towns. What is the Jammu Smart Cities Mission?

Jammu Smart Cities Mission is an initiative by the Indian Government to improve people's living quality in cities and towns by using best practices, information and digital technology, and more public-private partnerships. The smart city mission launch date is June 25, 2015, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the initiative. The Union Ministry of Urban Development is responsible for implementing the mission. Also, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in each state is created, headed by the CEO; they look after the implementation of the mission. To make the mission successful, funding of Rs 7,20,000 crore is provided.


In the five rounds, 100 cities are selected countrywide. These cities will be upgraded as per the area development plan. All the states of India are participating in the programme, leaving West Bengal. This state has not participated due to political differences between the centre and state government. In Maharashtra, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai have withdrawn their participation.

What do Jammu Smart Cities do?

Jammu Smart cities leverage technologies to provide services to the citizens. Various electronic methods and sensors are used for collecting data. The insights of the data received help operational improvement of garbage collection, utility supply, traffic movement, environmental management, and managing social services. The use of information and communication technology allows the city authorities to monitor the city in real-time and interact smoothly with the community.

Features of the Smart Cities

The Jammu Smart cities have several features included in them, including a smart healthcare system, governance, transportation system, better surveillance for security, smart infrastructure, better job opportunities, and every other facility and amenities that make a living comfortably.

·         Deliver enhanced key services to the community reliably and cost-effectively.

·         A well-developed smart plan for data analysis and involvement of the community in broad

·         Boosting the local economy.

·         Well-handled urbanization and coping strategies for population growth and climate change.

·         Use of smart technology for community needs

·         The streamlined transportation system.

These features differentiate smart cities from other cities. Jammu Smart cities are developed to inspire other cities to improve the infrastructure for the economic growth of the cities.
